Paolo Basso est un sommelier italo-suisse né le 31 octobre 1966 à Besnate, en Lombardie. Il a remporté le titre de Meilleur Sommelier du Monde en 2013 à Tokyo, devenant l'un des seulement six sommeliers au monde à avoir remporté à la fois le titre de Meilleur Sommelier d'Europe (2010) et de Meilleur Sommelier du Monde. Après sa carrière classique dans les restaurants étoilés Michelin, sa passion pour le vin l'a conduit à fonder Paolo Basso Wine en Ticino et à étendre ses horizons professionnels par l'enseignement et le conseil en oenologie.
